Dr Philip Scanlon
This is the intro

Philip Scanlon is the Project Lead for the National RPL Project at DKIT.
Philip spent a large portion of his career working in aviation, commencing in the electrical engineering field gaining extensive practical and theoretical experience in many aspects of various engineering disciplines. His career spanned, Avionic engineer, Industrial engineer, Aircraft Maintenance Planning and Reliability engineering. Other supporting roles included worldwide technical sales and marketing executive and also as a Continuous Improvement Executive. While working with Boeing and Airbus he led a project in the development of a Maintenance Planning and Reliability CRM system. He also had the responsibility for the design, development, training and follow-up of numerous bespoke IT system improvements.
Philip returned to full-time education in recent years and achieved a BSc (Hons) in Enterprise Computing at DCU and a PhD in Data Analytics from the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at DCU. From 2017 he was the Student Recruitment and Retention officer for the Department of Computing and Mathematics at DkIT. He developed an extensive outreach programme across the North Eastern region of Ireland, for both primary and secondary schools. He helped establish DkIT as the NE regional Hub for the international STEM initiative, Vex Robotics.
The lack of a standard RPL approach across higher education is a barrier to those who would welcome the chance to further their education. Philip is committed to helping deliver a coherent, transparent and standardised RPL pathway for the benefit of learners, higher education and enterprise.
